Preparation and method of application are essential for great results:

  • Shake oil well before use.  Keep the container upright at all times.
  • Ensure the wood to be treated is dry, free from dirt and repellant coatings such as wax, paint and varnish (remove and sand down as required).
  • Wipe oily woods with White Spirit before application.
  • Apply by brush or lint-free cloth – after 10-15 minutes, remove excess oil with a lint free cloth.
  • Clean equipment with Barrettine White Spirit.
  • Reapply after 24 hours as necessary. NOT recommended for use on oak.
  • Precaution: cloths used for oiling may spontaneously combust.  Immediately after use, soak them in soapy water then lay them flat outside on a non-combustible surface to dry.

What is teak oil good for?

Teak oil is used to nourish and protect wood, enhancing its natural appearance while providing a water-resistant finish. It's ideal for use on both indoor and outdoor furniture, particularly garden furniture and most hardwoods like teak, iroko, and cedar, but it is not recommended for oak. Regular application of teak oil helps to prevent wood from greying, splitting, and weathering.

Can you use teak oil on decking?

Yes, Teak Oil can technically be used on decking, but it may not be the best choice due to its need for frequent reapplication and its primary formulation for furniture.

For decking, we offer more suitable products like the Decking Oil All-In-One Treatment, which provides excellent UV protection, water repellence, and helps prevent splitting and cracking of the wood. This product is specifically designed for outdoor wooden surfaces and is available in various colours to suit different types of wood.
